darwin - 14 weeks

14 weeks and now up to 37.5lbs!
we had a little mishap today... i decided to cut darwins nails before going to the vet, and she moved a bit on one and i cut the quick! she didnt yelp in pain and let me finish cutting the rest, but by the end there was blood dripping all over the balcony. we dont have styptic powder on hand, so after a quick google search, i found out flour works just as well. and it did! it amazed me how much blood came out of one toe, and that she totally was oblivious to it.

we went to a small park near the house this week and let her run around off leash. she had tons of fun. we forgot to bring a ball (bad puppy parents) but she has a thing for sticks, so we were in luck throwing a stick around.

now that shes gotten all her shots, we plan on taking a trip to marymoor park on a sunday afternoon where we hear a bunch of great danes meet up at 100. should be fun to see how she interacts with full sized great danes.

darwin - 11weeks

darwin is now 11 weeks old.
we took her for her second set of shots on saturday and shes up to 26.4 lbs! (she was 12.9lbs at 7 weeks)
we have her in puppy kindergarten for training and socialization, and while the training is helpful, the most helpful part is the socialization. since we bottle fed her from 5 days old, and she only got weekend time with her mom and the majority of her siblings, she was a bit snarly at other puppies. weve been going to class for about 3 weeks now, two times a week, and shes getting a lot better. tho shes still intimidated by a big group of older/bigger puppies, shes getting better with smaller puppies, and one on one bigger puppy time.
this is her bff from class, louie the french bulldog:

and this is her bff neighbor from upstairs, riley the black lab:

it still amazes me that shes as big as she is now, when we first took her and her brother and sisters home to foster they were this big (shes the one with the pink ribbon):

le creuset

ideally id own a le creuset dutch oven (or french oven as their brand calls it), but being that they are way out of my budget i own a cheap (temporary) version from ikea.
i went to williams sonoma this past weekend with the intent of picking up a lodge 12" cast iron pan. they were having a big sale mostly on their holiday items, and me being a big shopper of sale items and bargains i spent a good chunk of time wandering around the sale tables... and to my luck i came across a cherry red le creuset cast iron pan!

it was on sale from $110 to $49.99! and tho it was more than i was intending to spend on the lodge one, and it was only 10" rather than the 12" one... it was my chance to own le creuset without spending hundreds of dollars... slowly making steps to good cookware.

so to break it in we made steak and garlic mash for dinner... mmmm.
